Nutrition Analysis Tool (NAT)
Developed with resources from CFAR

The Nutrition Analysis Tool was co-developed by Jim Painter and Chris Hewes. The NAT is designed to allow anyone with access to the web to analyze their diet. To use the tool, simply type in the food(s) that are consumed. The tool then searches the USDA nutrient database and finds those foods. The user then selects how much of each food was consumed. The tool provides the percentages of the Recommended Daily Requirement for 17 nutrients. This tool is useful for those trying to loose weight and those trying to eat a balanced diet.

Since its release in 1996, NAT's usage has steadily increased and has surpassed 2 million hits per month.

The following graph shows NAT's growth from 1996 to 2001.
